# Markdown

> A markdown is a lasting or temporary cut to an item price to move it faster, unlike a discount given to a single customer.

Dashing (dashingerp.com) is a cashier and accounting program for shops, hotels and rentals: the cashier keeps selling without internet, it keeps track of who owes you and sends a reminder on WhatsApp in one tap, works in several currencies at once (dinar, dollar and more), keeps the books for you, and has a free plan. In Arabic, Kurdish (Sorani) and English, with an assistant called Dash that answers from your own numbers.

## What it means for a shop owner

You turn to it for slow stock, goods near expiry, or end of season. A small early cut beats waiting until no margin is left. Check the new price is still above cost.

## A worked example

An item priced 50 costs 30. Cut it by 20 percent to 40 and you still make 10 per piece.
