> In Settings, Branches, press "Count the drawers", enter each drawer's cash, review the corrections and switch on. After that, no payment can overdraw a drawer.

Until you count, the books do not know what is in your drawers, so nothing stops a payment from an empty drawer. After you count, they do.

## Steps

1. Close any open shift first (the screen lists the ones to close). See [open and close a shift](/help/open-and-close-a-shift).
2. Open "Settings", then "Branches", and find the card "Cash protection".
3. Press "Count the drawers".
4. For each drawer that has been used, type the cash really inside it. Zero is a valid count. A drawer never used shows "Not used yet, nothing to count". "The books say" shows what the books think, to compare.
5. Press "Review the corrections". Each drawer says whether the books go up by an amount, go down by an amount, or already match.
6. Press "Switch on". Use "Back" to fix a number or "Cancel" to leave without changes.

## If it doesn't work

- "Close the open shift first:" lists the shifts to close before you can count.
- "Count every drawer that has been used.": one drawer is still empty in the form; fill it, even with zero.

## What the system does not do

After it is on, a payment, expense or refund that would take a drawer below zero is refused, and every shift opens from the counted cash. It does not count the cash for you.

## Common questions

**Can I switch it off later?**

No. The screen says that once it is on, it stays on. Count carefully before you switch on.

**Where does the difference between my count and the books go?**

To your starting capital, not to today's profit.
