# Checking a price at the till without adding it to the sale

> A customer asks "how much?": press "Price check" on Sell, scan or type the code, and see the price and the quantity on hand. The cart is not touched.

The price check answers a customer's question in a few seconds: the item's price and how many you have in the active store. It adds nothing to the cart.

## Steps

1. Open "Sell". Among the quick actions press "Price check".
2. The window "Price check" opens with the cursor in its field. Scan the barcode, or type the code.
3. Press "Check" (or Enter after the scan).
4. Read the item name, its price (with the unit, for example per kg) and "On hand".
5. Scan another item to check it too, or close the window. Your sale is exactly as you left it.

## If it doesn't work

- Not found: the code is not in your products ([a barcode is not found](/help/barcode-not-found-at-the-till)).
- "stock unknown here": the quantity of this store is not known on this device yet; the price is still correct.

## What the system does not do

It does not show the price in a customer-specific price list or a promotion; it shows the item's normal price.

## Common questions

**Does the price check change the sale in progress?**

No. Nothing is added to the cart, so you can check a price in the middle of a sale and go back to it.

**It says the item is not found.**

The code is not in your products. Check the digits, or look the item up by name in the Sell search; if it is new, see the barcode-not-found article.
