A return in Dashing is always a documented operation: the item goes back to stock, the money is refunded in cash or stays as customer credit, and the entry appears in the books.

## Steps

1. From the sell screen press "Return".
2. With a receipt: choose "Return with receipt", enter the "Invoice number" or scan its code, and press "Find".
3. Without a receipt: choose "Return without receipt", search the item in "Search the returned product…", and enter the "Sale price at purchase"; it is used to find the matching sale.
4. Set the "Units returned" per line with "Increase" and "Decrease".
5. Choose the "Refund": "Cash" takes the amount out of the shift's drawer, or "Credit" adds it to the customer's balance for a later purchase.
6. Confirm; "Return recorded." appears.

## Changing a sale from its invoice

A finished sale is not edited in place. Open the invoice, press "Change this sale" and choose what happened:

- "The customer brought something back": a partial return, as in the steps above.
- "The customer swapped an item": the item comes back and the replacement is sold in one step; only the difference is paid or given back.
- "It was rung up wrong — fix it": the sale opens as it was; change what you need and press "Save the fix". The original is reversed and the right sale takes its place at the same branch; only the difference changes hands.
- "Cancel the whole sale": everything goes back into stock and the amount is reversed.

On a sale with money still owed, only the return is offered; then ring the new sale.

## What happens in the books and stock

The quantity returns to the branch's stock, sales are reversed by the amount returned, and the cost of goods comes back; a cash refund appears in the shift report as a return, and customer credit appears on their page.

## What the system does not do

- It does not enforce a return-period policy; the allowed window for finding a matching invoice is a system setting, and the refund policy is your decision.
- It does not print a separate return receipt automatically; the original invoice shows what was returned.

## Common questions

**Can I delete a wrong invoice instead of returning it?**

No. Invoices are never deleted; a return (or a void) is a visible reversing entry that stays in the log under the name of whoever did it.

**The customer has no receipt and does not remember the date.**

Use "Return without receipt": search the item, enter the sale price at purchase, and the system looks for a matching sale within the allowed window.
