Bookkeeping

Bookkeeping is recording every money transaction in the shop regularly and in order, such as sales, purchases, expenses, receipts and payments.

What it means for a shop owner

It is the base on which reports, taxes and decisions are built. Record on the day of the transaction, not a week later. Keep the invoices and match them to the books and bank every month.

A worked example

In a month there are 240 sales invoices and 30 purchase invoices. You enter them all in your books, and at month end the totals match the bank.
