Dead stock
Dead stock is goods that have sat in the store without selling for a long time, tying up your cash and space for no return.
What it means for a shop owner
The idle period depends on the shop, three months for a clothes shop for example. The usual fixes are a discount to clear it, bundling it with another item, or returning it to the supplier. If an item keeps going dead, do not order it again.
A worked example
You bought 40 pieces at 10 each and sold none in 4 months. That is 400 units of cash locked up, and selling them at 8 would bring back 320.
