Income tax

Income tax is a tax on the profits of people or companies over a period, and it differs from sales tax.

What it means for a shop owner

It is worked out on profit, not on sales, and its rules and rates vary a lot from country to country. Small businesses may fall under a simpler scheme. Leave the calculation to an accountant who knows your law.

A worked example

Take a profit of 12000: the tax is your country's rate applied to that profit.
