Return on investment
Return on investment is the profit made from an amount you spent, divided by that amount, shown as a percentage.
What it means for a shop owner
Use it to compare two options, such as advertising against a discount. Count net profit, not revenue. Always state the period, since 20 percent in a month is not 20 percent in a year.
A worked example
You spend 500 on an advert and it brings 650 in profit. The net return is 150 on 500, which is 30 percent.
