A hardware stock count: the unit and the shelf location.

A hardware shop holds thousands of small items: screws by the box, wire by the metre, wrenches by the piece, each on a shelf or in a bin. This template adds the counting unit and the shelf location, so whoever counts knows where to start and in what unit, and does not count a box as a piece. It has sample rows, and the locations and quantities are illustrations only.

Common questions

Why write the shelf location?

So the count becomes an orderly walk through the shop instead of random searching, and whoever checks a difference can return to the same spot. It also reveals an item kept in two places that gets counted twice or missed.

How do I count tiny high-count items?

Count sealed boxes as boxes, and for open ones weigh or count a sample, then scale up. Write the unit clearly in its column so the team does not mix a box with a piece.

What if I find an item that is not on the list?

Add a new line at the bottom with its unit and location, and set expected to zero. The positive difference will show that it entered the shop unrecorded.

Dashing does this for every item, automatically, in your shop.
