Accrual

An accrual is a sale or cost you record in the period it happened, even if the money has not come in or gone out yet.

What it means for a shop owner

It makes your report show the true picture for the month. A power bill for May is recorded in May even if you pay it in June. Without it one month looks richer and the next poorer than it was.

A worked example

You use 200 of power in May and pay in June. You book 200 as a May cost and it stays a liability until paid.
