Audit trail

An audit trail is a written record of who did what and when for each change in your accounts or stock.

What it means for a shop owner

It answers the question where did this amount go. Nothing is deleted from it even when a mistake is fixed, since a new correction is added instead. It is the best deterrent to fraud because staff know their actions are recorded.

A worked example

An item price changed from 50 to 35 on Tuesday. The record shows the staff name, the time and both values.
