Cost center
A cost center is a department, activity or project whose costs and income you track on their own so you can see whether it earns.
What it means for a shop owner
It helps if you run a cafe and a bakery together, two branches, or a separate repair job. Do not create too many or recording gets heavy. Ask whether you will decide anything based on the split.
A worked example
The cafe sells 3,000 against costs of 2,200, and the bakery sells 2,000 against costs of 2,100. The cafe earns 800 and the bakery loses 100.
