First expired, first out (FEFO)

FEFO is a rule that says the batch closest to its expiry date is sold first, whatever day it arrived.

What it means for a shop owner

Pharmacies, groceries and any shop selling food or medicine need it, because a batch that arrived late can expire before one that arrived early. The biggest gain is less stock thrown away after expiry.

A worked example

You hold batch A expiring in 20 days and batch B expiring in 60 days, and B arrived first. You sell from A first because it expires sooner.
