Glossary

Par level

It is the quantity you want on hand of an item at the start of each period, so you order the gap between what you have and that number.

What it means for a shop owner

It is common in restaurants, cafes and shops with steady demand. Set the number from usual sales with a safety margin. Change it in busy seasons.

A worked example

The par for milk is 40 cartons and you have 12, so you order 28.
