Revenue

Revenue is the total the shop earned from selling its goods or services in a period, before any cost is taken off.

What it means for a shop owner

It is the top line of the income statement, also called sales. Large revenue does not mean large profit, since costs may eat it. A loan is not revenue because it must be repaid.

A worked example

You sold goods for 6,000 and gave a service for 500. Revenue is 6,500, and a 2,000 loan is not added.
