Staff turnover

Staff turnover is the share of employees who leave over a period compared with the number of employees.

What it means for a shop owner

A high rate is costly because you retrain and customers used to one employee may drift away. Common causes are pay, poor treatment and an unclear role. Ask leavers why they go.

A worked example

Of 10 employees, 3 left this year, so turnover is 30 percent.
