Stock adjustment
A stock adjustment records a rise or fall in an item quantity for a reason other than selling or buying, such as damage or a count result.
What it means for a shop owner
Do not change the number by hand without a reason. Record the adjustment with its cause, date and who made it. That keeps the gap explainable, and shows how much you lost to damage even though nothing was sold.
A worked example
A box falls and 4 of its 30 pieces break. You record an adjustment of minus 4 with the reason "damage", and the balance becomes 26.
