Stock count
A stock count is counting what is really on the shelf, comparing it with what the system says, and correcting the difference in the record.
What it means for a shop owner
A cycle count means counting a few items each day or week instead of closing the shop for one big count. It catches gaps early, such as theft or a keying error, before they grow. Count without seeing the expected number so you are not swayed by the system.
A worked example
The system says you hold 50 boxes of tea and you count 47 on the shelf. The gap is 3 missing boxes, so you record the correction and the balance becomes 47.
