Stockout
A stockout is when a customer wants an item and you have none on the shelf, so the sale is lost.
What it means for a shop owner
The loss is more than the one sale, since the customer may go elsewhere and not return. Fast sellers deserve the most protection. Note what was asked for and not found, to see what you are missing.
A worked example
An item sells 8 pieces a day at a profit of 3 each. Four days out of stock loses 32 pieces and 96 in profit.
