Percentage calculator: the four sums every shop needs.

Pick the sum you need and type the two numbers. The result appears at once with a line showing how it was worked out. Find 15% of 2,000, what percent 500 is of 2,000, how far a price rose from 80 to 100, or what a price becomes after 20% off. It all runs in your browser and accepts Arabic-Indic digits.

Enter both numbers to see the result.

The four formulas

Percent of an amount: percent × amount ÷ 100. What percent the part is of the whole: part ÷ whole × 100. Percent change: (new − old) ÷ old × 100. Price after a raise: price × (1 + percent ÷ 100); after a discount: price × (1 − percent ÷ 100).

Examples from a shop

A supplier raises an item from 80 to 100: a 25% increase. 20% off a price of 2,500 makes it 2,000. A profit of 500 on a sale of 2,000 is a 25% margin. For margin and markup from a cost, use the margin calculator, because margin and markup are two different percentages.

When the base is zero

A percentage of zero cannot be worked out, and neither can a change from a starting value of zero, because dividing by zero has no meaning. The calculator shows a clear message instead of a wrong number.

Common questions

How do I work out the percent change between two prices?

Subtract the old price from the new one, divide by the old price and multiply by 100. From 80 to 100: 20 ÷ 80 × 100 = 25%. If the price falls, the percentage is negative.

If I raise a price by 10% and then cut it by 10%, do I get back to the start?

No. 100 plus 10% is 110, and 10% off 110 is 99. The second step is taken from a bigger price. Use the add or remove mode twice to see it.

Is anything saved?

No. The whole calculation runs in your browser and nothing leaves your device.

Dashing does this for every item, automatically, in your shop.
