A jewellery invoice: each piece with its karat, weight and making charge.

A gold piece is priced as its weight at the day's price per gram for its karat, plus the making charge. If only one number is written, neither you nor the customer can see how it was reached. So this template adds karat, weight in grams and the making charge, and leaves the piece price for you to enter once you have worked it out. The sample rows are common pieces, and the weights and making charges are only illustrations.

Common questions

How do I work out the piece price?

Multiply the weight in grams by the day's price per gram for that karat, then add the making charge. Enter the result as the unit price and the template totals it by quantity. The gram price changes daily, so it is not stored in the template.

Should I show the making charge apart from the gold?

It is best to. A customer who brings a piece back to sell or exchange then sees that the making charge is usually not returned and only the gold weight counts. Agree this with your customers and write it down.

Does the template connect to a scale?

No, it is an Excel file where you type the weight yourself from your scale. The weights in the sample rows are examples, not real figures.
