Overpayment

An overpayment is when a customer pays more than is due, leaving him a credit with you or a difference to return.

What it means for a shop owner

Do not treat it as your revenue, since it is the customer's money until settled. Either return it or take it off his next bill with his agreement. Record it as a credit balance so it is not lost.

A worked example

The bill is 480 and he pays 500, so 20 is left as his credit.
