Change (cash)
Change is the amount you hand back to a customer who pays more cash than the bill comes to.
What it means for a shop owner
Change mistakes are a common cause of a short drawer at day end. Enter the amount the customer gave you so the system works out the change, and count it out in front of them. Keep small notes in the drawer.
A worked example
The bill is 37 and the customer hands you 50. The change is 13.
