Store credit

Store credit is an amount recorded for a customer with you to spend later instead of taking it back in cash.

What it means for a shop owner

It is often given for a return without a receipt or an overpayment. It is a debt you owe until used, so record it clearly. Give it a reasonable expiry if the law allows.

A worked example

A customer returns a 60 shirt without a receipt and you give him 60 in store credit.
