Glossary
Carton, pack and unit conversion
Pieces in the larger pack, such as 12 in a dozen and 24 in a carton, so an item is bought in one unit and sold in another.
What it means for a shop owner
You buy by the carton and sell by the piece, so the system must know the link or the stock goes wrong. The cost per piece is the carton cost divided by the pieces in it. Each unit may carry its own barcode.
A worked example
A carton costs 120 and holds 24 pieces. Each piece costs 5 and sells at 7. Selling 6 pieces takes a quarter of a carton.
