Partial payment
A partial payment is when a customer pays part of the amount due and the rest stays as a debt.
What it means for a shop owner
Record it against the same invoice, not as a new sale, so the balance shows correctly. Give the customer a receipt for what he paid and what remains. Agree a date for the rest.
A worked example
On a 1000 invoice he pays 400, so the debt left is 600.
