Post-dated cheque
A post-dated cheque is a cheque written with a later date, and it is not normally cashed before that date.
What it means for a shop owner
It is used as a promise to pay later. Its legal value differs between countries and some do not recognise it. Do not count it as cash in your books until it clears.
A worked example
A customer gives you a cheque for 900 dated 30 days ahead in return for goods today.
