Purchase invoice

A purchase invoice is the document a supplier sends listing what they sold you, the value and the payment date, and it sits in your books as a liability.

What it means for a shop owner

Match it against the purchase order and the delivery note before you pay, to confirm quantity and price. Record it in the month you received the goods. If you find a gap, ask the supplier for a credit note.

A worked example

You ordered 100 pieces at 5, but the invoice says 6. You pay 500, not 600, and ask for a correction.
