Selling by weight with the barcode your scale prints
Tell Dashing how your butcher, deli or sweets scale prints its barcode (prefix, item digits, weight or price), then scan the label at the till to ring it at that weight.

A scale that prints a price label puts the item's code and its weight (or its price) inside the barcode. Once Dashing knows the layout, scanning that label rings the item at the printed weight.
Steps
- Open "Settings", then the "Inventory" tab, and find the card "Scale labels".
- Turn on "My shop prints scale labels".
- In "Prefixes the scale prints" enter the starting digits your scale uses (between 20 and 29).
- In "Digits in the item code" choose how many digits the scale gives the item (4, 5 or 6).
- In "The rest of the digits" choose "The weight, in grams" or "The price", as your scale prints, then press "Save". The card shows an example so you can compare it with a real label.
- Give each weighed product, in your stock, the same code the scale uses for it (the item code is the product's code; leading zeros do not matter).
- At the till, scan the label. The cart gets one line at that weight, or at the printed price.
If it doesn't work
- Nothing is added: the first digits are not among your prefixes, or the digits count is wrong. Compare with the example on the card.
- Item not found: no product has the code printed in the label (a barcode is not found).
What the system does not do
It does not read the weight from the scale itself; it reads it from the printed label. If you type a weight by hand, it is typed.
Common questions
- Which prefixes does a scale use?
- Scales print a 13-digit barcode that starts with 20 to 29. Your scale's manual or its label setup screen tells which one it uses; enter the same in Dashing.
- The label scans but the item is not found.
- The item code on the label must be the code of a product in your stock. Leading zeros do not matter. Check the digits count in Settings matches the scale's.
