Card reader

A card reader is a device that reads a payment card or the customer phone and sends the request to the payment provider to approve the amount.

What it means for a shop owner

The payment provider takes a fee on each payment, so count it in your costs. Match the reader day total with the card sales in your books at close. Keep the slip if there is a dispute.

A worked example

Card sales are 2000 and the fee is 1.5 percent, which is 30. 1970 reaches your account.
