Cash over and short
Cash over and short is the gap between the cash you counted in the drawer and the cash that should be there per the sales.
What it means for a shop owner
It usually comes from a change mistake or a keying error. A shortage is booked as a cost and an overage as a small income, and neither should be hidden. If a shortage keeps showing up with one cashier, talk to them.
A worked example
Expected is 700 and you count 690. The shortage is 10 and is booked as a loss. If you count 705, the overage is 5.
