Cash-up (shift close)

Closing a shift is counting the cash when a cashier finishes, comparing it with what was expected and ending the period with a saved report.

What it means for a shop owner

A shift separates each cashier's responsibility for his cash, so when a gap appears you know who held the drawer. At closing you leave a float for the next opening, bank the rest, and the result stays on file for review.

A worked example

Your shift started with 100 and the closing count is 1020 against an expected 1000. The report shows 20 over, you keep 100 for the next shift and bank 920.
