Gross sales

Gross sales are the total value of everything you sold in a period, before returns and discounts are taken off.

What it means for a shop owner

It is the biggest number in a sales report because nothing has been subtracted. It shows how busy the shop was, but it is not profit and it is not all the money that reached the drawer. For what was really kept, look at net sales.

A worked example

In a week you sell 120 pieces at 10 each, so gross sales are 1200 units, even if a customer brings back two pieces and you gave a discount on others.
