Promotion

A promotion is a price cut, gift or special condition for a set period to encourage customers to buy.

What it means for a shop owner

Decide beforehand what you want, more volume or new customers, and check you still profit after the discount. Give it a clear start and end. Compare your sales during it with the period before.

A worked example

An item priced 20 costs 12, so you earn 8 a piece. You cut it to 16 for a week, so you earn 4, and you must sell at least double the quantity to make it up.
