Glossary
SKU (stock keeping unit)
An SKU is a short unique code you give each item, size and colour so you can tell it apart in stock and on bills without mix-ups.
What it means for a shop owner
It differs from a barcode because you choose it to suit how you work, while a barcode comes from the maker. A blue shirt in M and a red shirt in M are two items with two codes, because their stock and price differ.
A worked example
The code SH-BL-M means shirt (SH), blue (BL), size M. If 8 pieces are left, 8 shows under that code alone and not under the red one.
