Thermal paper
Thermal paper is paper coated with a layer that darkens under heat, so a thermal printer prints on it without ink.
What it means for a shop owner
Writing on it fades with heat, light and time, so if you need a receipt for a year of warranty keep a digital copy. Buy rolls in your printer's size, since a bigger roll will not fit.
A worked example
You print 40 receipts a day, so a roll lasts about 8 days. Over 30 days you need 4 rolls.
