Point of sale (POS)
The point of sale is the screen or device where a sale is rung up, payment taken and the receipt printed.
What it means for a shop owner
In a good system each sale lowers stock, raises the drawer and feeds the reports at once, so nothing is typed twice. Speed at the till matters, since a long queue loses customers.
A worked example
You scan 3 items at 5, 8 and 12, so the total is 25. He pays 30, gets 5 back, and the receipt prints.
