UPC barcode
UPC is a 12-digit barcode common in North America, and EAN systems read it by adding a zero at the front.
What it means for a shop owner
Imported goods may reach you with this type, and it works with your usual scanners. You do not need to change it. Record it as it is on the item card.
A worked example
The number 036000291452 has 12 digits. An EAN system reads it as 0036000291452, which is 13 digits.
