A shirt in 3 sizes and 2 colours is 6 items. Type the sizes and colours once and the six rows are made for you.

Steps

  1. Open "Inventory", press "New product" and fill the name and price.
  2. Under "Variants (size / colour)" tick "This product has variants".
  3. In the box "Sizes" type them separated by commas, for example S, M, L. In "Colours" type Red, Black.
  4. Press the button "Make 6 variants" (the number follows your lists). One row appears for every size and colour pair, named like "L / Red".
  5. In each row set "Price", "Opening quantity" and the code. Leave the code empty to get "Auto number". Press "Remove" on a pair you do not stock.
  6. Press "Add variant" for any extra row, then save the product.

If it doesn't work

  • The button is greyed: both lists are empty, or there are too many pairs. "More than ... ; shorten a list." asks you to cut a list.

What the system does not do

It does not sell the main product itself: it is only a container, and each variant has its own code and price. A service has no variants.

Common questions

Can I turn an existing product into variants?
No. The box is only in the new product form. On a product that already has variants you can add more, and you edit the existing ones from the list.
What is the number that appears when I leave the code empty?
The system gives the variant its own code, shown as "Auto number" until saved.
