For salons and barbershops

For salons and barbershops: a haircut is a service, the dye comes from your stock, and each staff member's commission comes from their own sales.

Dashing is for a salon or barbershop that sells a service and a product on one sale: a cut or a colour is a service that never moves stock, shampoo and oil are products that are deducted when sold, and each staff member's commission is worked out from the sales they rang. It does not manage appointments or book chairs.

Services and products on one sale

In the "Product type" field choose "Service" for the cut, the colour and the beard trim: they have no stock and the till never says one has run out. Shampoo, cream and fragrance stay ordinary products with a quantity and a minimum, and you add both to the same sale.

Materials used are deducted on each service

On the service, add the items it uses up under "Materials used", in fractions such as 0.05 of a tube of dye. Each sale of the service takes those quantities out of stock and counts their cost as the service cost, so you know what dye is left without counting by hand.

A commission and a target per staff member

Create a commission rule: a percent of revenue, a percent of margin, or a fixed amount per sale, daily, weekly or monthly, and set a sales target. The commission goes to the staff member who rang the sale, so each person rings their own sales with their own login. To try rates first, use the salon commission calculator.

Customer debts, expenses and reports

The till works offline. A customer who pays later is booked as a debt on their account with a due date, rent, power and wages go in as expenses, and the reports show what services and products sold and the profit.

What it does not do

It does not manage appointments, bookings or reminders. It calculates commission but does not pay it: pay it your usual way and record it as an expense.

Common questions

Should a haircut be a stock item?

No. Make it the Service type: it has no quantity and the till never warns that it ran out. If it uses a stocked material, add that under Materials used.

How does the commission know which staff member sold?

It credits whoever rang the sale. So each staff member signs in with their own login and rings their own sales; it does not work if one person rings everyone's sales.

Can I sell a product along with the service?

Yes. Add the service and the product to one sale: the product's quantity is deducted from stock and the service is not affected.
