Average basket

The average basket is total sales divided by the number of bills. It tells you how much a customer spends in one visit.

What it means for a shop owner

Winning more customers is hard and costly, while growing the basket starts at the till: suggest an add-on or a bigger pack. Watch it weekly, because a drop with the same number of bills means customers are buying less each time.

A worked example

Today sales are 4500 units across 90 bills. Average basket = 4500 ÷ 90 = 50 units per bill.
