Customer retention

Customer retention is the share of customers who come back to buy from you after their first purchase.

What it means for a shop owner

Keeping a customer is usually cheaper than finding a new one. Good service, fair prices, a points scheme and a simple reminder all help. Track the share monthly to see whether it rises.

A worked example

50 customers bought in January and 20 of them came back in February, so retention is 40 percent.
