Shelf life

Shelf life is the period an item stays fit to sell and use, from the day it is made or arrives to its expiry date.

What it means for a shop owner

The shorter it is, the smaller and more frequent your orders should be. Ask the supplier for the remaining life at delivery, since some shipments arrive half used up. Record the expiry date of every batch.

A worked example

Milk with a shelf life of 14 days arrives 4 days after it was made. You have 10 days left to sell, so do not order more than you sell in 10 days.
