A work order follows one repair from the moment the item arrives until you hand it back and bill it, so nothing is forgotten and the invoice has every part and every hour.
Steps
- Open "Work orders" from the menu and press "New order".
- In "New work order" pick the customer ("Pick a customer…"), describe the device in "Item / issue", and set "Ready by" (Today, Tomorrow or In 3 days). Press "Save". The status starts at "Intake".
- Open the order. The button on the top moves it to the next stage: "Diagnosing", "Awaiting parts", "In progress", then "Ready for pickup".
- Under "Parts" press "Add part", search the part ("Search part…"), set the quantity and the unit price, and press "Add".
- Under "Labor" press "Add labor", write the "Description" and the "Amount", and press "Add". The "Total" updates.
- When the customer comes, press "Close → invoice". An invoice is created from the order; "View invoice" opens it for payment (collecting a payment).
- To abandon an order press "Cancel" before it is closed.
If it doesn't work
- "Pick a part + price.": choose a part from the search and enter its price before "Add".
- "Enter a description + amount.": labor needs both.
- Closed orders leave the default list; switch the filter from "Open" to "All" to see them.
What the system does not do
It does not message the customer; when it is ready, contact them yourself.
Common questions
- How does the customer know it is ready?
- Dashing does not message them. When the order reaches "Ready for pickup", contact the customer yourself.
- Can I change an order after it is closed?
- No. A closed or cancelled order is final; the invoice created from it is where you continue, for example with a credit note.
